No One Told Me it Would Lead to This
It was unintended courage in another part of my life that led to the series "No One Told Me it Would Lead to This". Upon the first application of wax or dye, ordinarily, I might have a vague intended goal. But here, I leapt over to a new medium - watercolour paper - and left everything I knew behind. I reached into my mind, then so focused with origin that upon looking back, I didn't recognize the person who emerged on the other side. No one told me it would lead to this. It took tremendous faith and a lack of wilfulness with this technique - the enchanting batik process - that at times seems merciless, but in fact, is merciful. It continuously invites me out to a much larger home than I can imagine belonging to in the first place. The purpose of art is not to produce a product, but to produce thinking and a conversation of life itself. No one told me it would lead to this.
