We know from archival military records that human sacrifices are intentionally offered to achieve battle objectives. One need only look at daily reports from the Ukraine or Gaza, let alone WWI.

At Gallipoli in 1915, the young lads were deposited on the wrong beach, second fiddle to those at the Dardanelles and indeed, the whole of the Western Front, They were afforded minimal artillery and guns, and faced a massive Turkish offensive. Add a lack of clean water with swarms of flies, unburied corpses, and dysentery soon followed, In 1915, Churchill helped orchestrate these disastrous naval campaigns both of which saw large losses. (He subsequently was demoted and resigned from government.)

New Zealand and Australia, who took the heaviest losses would see their nationhoods born as capable and important in the British Empire. This marked the beginning of a long journey to even fuller independence.
